Newbie Frequently Asked Questions
Are you new on this site? Do you have a lot of questions and are you searching for answers? Not sure if they've been asked before? Well, you've come to the right place! I was just browsing through the forums, and I've come across frequently asked questions from new members. Sometimes, they're posted in topics completely unrelated to the question itself. If you're new and seeking help, this is the topic for you. Questions regarding both the actual PA website and regarding the forums may be found here.
Also, if you like this post and/or if you think this is very helpful, a
would be appreciated.
Note: I was planning to start this thread before, but I wanted to wait and see if this kind of thing (asking the same questions) continues. It did, so then I decided to just go ahead and start the thread. Besides, some don't tend to read the Quick Guide on the actual site before posting here. If I made a mistake anywhere, please let me know. Also, please be polite. It was around 1:00 AM or so when I started typing this. Thank you.
Pet Adoptables
Q: What timezone does PetAdoptables (PA) follow?
A: If I'm not mistaken, the site follows the Pacific standard timezone (PST, UTC-08; Zone U). I based this off Wikipedia and my own timezone. Feel free to correct me.
Q: How can I turn e-mail notifications off?
A: You will find Account in the drop down menu of My Home. Go there and click Change Settings and Profile Info. Turn E-mail notifications with pm off.
Q: How do pets level up? Why don't Frozen pets level up?
A: All you have to do is click on pets. It takes a certain number of clicks for a pet's level to increase. You can find the number of clicks your pets need to level up in their individual Status pages. However, pets which are marked Frozen will not gain any clicks, thus they will not level up. The freezing system is made solely for that reason. You may freeze a pet by clicking on the link Manage Pet next to it in My Home.
Q: Which eggs are which? How many colors does each pet have?
A: The number of alternatives or alts (as many of us call them) varies per pet. Some have six (6) different alts, others have less. You may refer to Allie's Pet Colors thread to view the pets' eggs and alts. Warning: The thread contains spoilers.
Q: Do pets in the Adoption Stand get restocked? How often do they get restocked?
A: Yes, of course. Think of it as buying books from an actual bookstore or chocolate from the grocery store; they run out and get restocked. The frequency of the restocks depends of the rarity of pets. The Common pets are most often found in the Adoption Stand (AS) every day, and they usually get restocked in large numbers like 40-60 each time - maybe even more. That's why they're common. Uncommon, Rare and Ultra Rare pets, on the other hand, aren't on the AS every day. Otherwise, they wouldn't be uncommon or rare. As for pets of other rarities (Explore Exclusive, Referral Exclusive and Limited Edition), please look through the other questions below because these pets are never found on the AS.
Please also note that the AS is restocked manually, so there is no specific time that it is restocked with pets. The Administrators restock and/or release pets in the morning and in the late afternoon or at night, so that members in different timezones will be able to get a hold of the pets they want.
Q: What are
Zodiac Crystals?
A: This is the site currency. It is used to buy pets on the Adoption Stand (AS) or the Bazaar, buy items needed for a Mine, purchase Credits and so on. Zodiac Crystals (ZC) are generally earned by clicking on pets. One click will give you 0.1 ZC. You may earn a maximum of 90 ZC a day from clicks, a total of 900 clicks for ZC in one day. However, you are not limited to clicking on 900 pets alone. You may click more than that.
Q: How else can I earn ZC?
A: There are many other ways to earn ZC. You may play games, sell pets at the Bazaar, enter the Daily Lottery or own a Mine and work on it. You may also watch out for games and contests here on the forums. Prizes may even include pets. Currently, the moderators are holding weekly competitions and raffles.
Q: What are
Credits?
A: Credits are what you use or spend to increase the clicks of a certain pet on the Click Exchange at a faster rate. You can earn Credits by clicking on pets on the Exchange in return, or you may purchase them in My Home. Credits are made solely for the Exchange, nothing more.
Q: What is the Click Exchange?
A: It was mentioned that the Click Exchange, also known as the Exchange, is mainly a place where your pets can gain clicks or grow faster. Here, you lose 1 Credit for every click your pet receives from other members, and you gain 0.3 Credits per link you click on the Exchange. You also gain 0.1 ZC per pet you click if you haven't used up your 900 clicks for the day. You can add/remove pets by clicking on Add To Exchange or Remove From Exchange next to a pet in My Home. You may also add/remove all of your pets at once on the same page, but keep in mind that you have to watch out for your Credits. Oftentimes, members have multiple pets on the Exchange when they only have around 5 Credits or less.
Q: What is the Abandoned Page?
A: Some users don't want to keep certain pets anymore for their own reasons, so they "abandon" these pets. These pets, however, don't disappear and are instead placed in the Abandoned Page for other users to bring home. However, you may only choose to take one abandoned pet in a day. If you want to be able to get more than one pet in one day, you can buy more slots on the Abandoned Page itself. One slot costs 100 ZC, and it will only last for the remainder of that same day. Once the time on PA resets, you can't use that slot anymore. Be sure to use your purchased slots wisely!
Q: What are Rooms?
A: Rooms allow you to organize pets in My Home. For example, you can put the pets you want to sell in one room so you may find them more easily.
Q: What is a Sticker Book?
A: Your Sticker Book allows you to simply view your pets by species.
Q: I am getting an error message that says, "Oops! It appears you may have tried to post twice, or a double post may have accidently been initiated so we prevented the double post." What if I wasn't trying to post twice?
A: Don't worry. All you have to do is refresh the profile page. To prevent spam, the site will think you are "posting twice" if you have updated your information on a different tab, such as purchasing a pet or earning some ZC/Credits. If you have gone anywhere else on the site or if you have clicked the person's pets while typing down the comment, the message will appear once you click Leave Comment. Again, just go back to the profile, copy your comment, refresh and try posting again.
Q: I am getting an error message that says, "Spoof Attempt. It appears you have tried to spoof our system. Script aborted." What if I wasn't trying to spoof the system?
A: The reason behind this and the solution to this are the same as what you'll find in the answer to the question above. Simply go back to the message, copy it, refresh the page and try sending your message again. Or if you were updating the price of a pet you have in the Bazaar, go back then update it again.
Q: How can I trade with other members? Where can I view my trades? How come my trade isn't working? How come I can't find the pet I want to trade?
A: You can view your trades at your Trade Center, found in the drop down menu for My Home. singingbadger has worked on a step-by-step guide on how to use the trade system on PA. Feel free to check it out. Trades may not work if you were asked to type a username down. Simply check any errors in capitalization. Trades may also not work if you are trading with someone who is sharing the same Internet connection as you are, or someone who is using a computer under the same roof you are currently under. This is to prevent members with multiple accounts from cheating. If you cannot find the pets you want to trade, they may either be currently at the Bazaar or hidden from your trades. You may take them out from the Bazaar before trading, or you may choose to click on the Show for Trades link next to the pets in My Home. If the problem continues, you may ask for help here on the forums.
Q: What is the Bazaar? How do I add / remove my pets there?
A: It is the marketplace for pets where you may sell or buy pets. To add or remove pets from the Bazaar, you only have to click on Sell / Update next to a pet in My Home. You will also have to remove the pets from any existing trades before you can sell them.
Q: I want to sell a pet in the Bazaar. How much should I sell it for?
A: There is no rule regarding the prices of pets, but there are pets that will sell and there are pets that won't. However, prices vary depending on the rarity, level and alt of each pet. You may find a discussion on Bazaar prices here. If you find a pet in the Bazaar that is priced unreasonably high, you can flag it only once by clicking on the
Flag symbol to its right. If it has been flagged ten times, it will automatically be removed. There is also a discussion on which pets you might want to flag here.
Q: What is a Mine and how can I get one?
A: Owning a Mine will allow you to earn ZC and obtain pets which are Explore Exclusive (rarity). You can purchase and view your mine in the My Mine page found in the Explore World drop down menu. Purchasing land for your Mine will cost you 400 ZC, and you will still need to buy items before you can start working on your Mine. For more information, Allie also has a Guide to Mining.
Q: What are Promo Codes? Where can I get them?
A: Promo Codes allow you to get Limited Edition (rarity) pets for free. However, they are not always available, hence why they are called limited editions. The Promo Codes are found on its respective page on PA.
Q: What is the Lottery?
A: If you don't know what a lottery is, it is something you can enter with the chance of winning a prize. On PA, there is a daily lottery. You may enter only once a day, and you may win either a good amount of ZC or a random pet, normally a Gray Wolf or a Chinchilla. You will receive a notification when you have entered and if you have won the lottery. Entering the daily lottery on PA is free of charge.
Q: What are referrals? How do I get them?
A: Referrals are the people you invite to PetAdoptables by using referral codes you find under a link in My Home. For every ten (10) referrals you gain, you earn a random pet which is Referral Exclusive (rarity). You can view the number of referrals you currently have on your PetAdoptables profile. The Referral System, however, is still new. Expect a few problems here and there. Currently, you can gain referrals by pasting the codes into your signatures/journals/etc. on different websites and having people click on it. They have to register on the page they land on and not anywhere else, otherwise you won't gain a referral. They must also validate their e-mail for you to get a referral, and they must use a believable username. Accounts whose usernames are something like hihihihihihgurl3434503234 will be deleted from the site. False accounts, even with believable names, will be deleted from your referrals.

Q: Who are Bob and Emma?
A: If you don't know who Bob and Emma are, they are the Administrators. They take care of everything on the site, and they are the reason PetAdoptables exist.
Q: How can I edit/delete my posts? Can I edit my topic/thread titles and polls?
A: You can find the Edit and Delete options on the lower right hand corner of your posts. You can also find the Edit option at the lower right hand corner of the first post or introduction post of your topic/thread. If you wish to edit your topic/thread - including titles and polls - just click on the Edit option then click on Use Full Editor. We don't allow members to delete their topics/threads because if they post something which isn't allowed on the PA Forums, they can easily take it out and get away with it.

A: If the contents of your post don't turn out the way they want them to, or if links in your post and/or signature are broken, you may fix the BB Code by clicking on the
Toggle button found in the upper left hand corner of your editor. You may find a reference sheet for BB Codes here. In addition, to make things less tedious for editing posts, click on Use Full Editor. This will allow you to preview your post before you submit the modified version.
Other problems with posts may vary, so feel free to ask anyone on the forums for help.
Q: How often can I bump a topic / thread in the forums?
A: You may only bump a topic/thread 24 hours after the last post or update.
Q: My native language is not English. May I post a topic / thread in a language other than English?
A: Yes, you may, as long as the contents of your topic/thread or what is in your topic/thread is appropriate and follows all PA rules. Do not think that the moderators and administrators won't be able to catch you if you post something wrong and/or inappropriate because we have our ways. Other than that, yes, you may post topics/threads in other languages.
Q: I caught someone posting spam / inappropriate or explicit material / art theft / plagiarism / etc.! What should I do?
A: There is a Report option at the lower right hand corner of each post. If you find something you think is wrong or inappropriate, you may let the moderators and administrators know by clicking on this and giving us some of your feedback on the issue.
Q: How can I put my pets on my signature?
A: To edit your signature, click on your username at the upper right corner of the forums page. Go to My Settings where you will see more links on the left hand side. Click on Signature. To place your pets in your signature, you may find the BB Codes for your pets at the bottom of the My Home page on the PA site. You may get individual BB Codes for your pet by clicking on Manage Pet next to them in My Home. You will then see a link that says Get BBCodes / HTML Codes for [Pet Name]. Copy the BB Codes and paste them on the text box found in Signature.
Q: I cannot post on the ShoutBox. How come?
A: I am uncertain about this, but I suppose you have to have at least ten (10) active posts on the forums before you can post on the ShoutBox (SB).
Q: I've been banned from the Forums/ShoutBox/Chat! Why?
A: If you haven't read the forum rules yet, please read them here. Emma posted them as an Announcement, so it shouldn't be too hard to miss. If you need to be reminded of the rules, then I'll say this: You may have been banned because you have violated one or more of the PA rules. In most cases, people have been banned due to spamming the forums or being undeniably rude - at times by means of cussing. Please be reminded that there are children on this site. If you are around the age range of 8-14, for example, you shouldn't be cussing in the first place.
Q: I see users with colored names. Why are they colored? What do the different colors mean?
A: Among the members, we have the Staff. To let others know who they are, their names are colored. The colors for each type of staff member are as follow: Administrator, Moderator, Writer, Official Artist, and Programmer.
Q: How can I be part of the Staff?
A: I cannot answer this question. The Administrators know who they assign as Staff members and why they do.
Q: Why does this look like [insert other forum name here] ?
A: The creators are most likely using the same Community Forums Software. Many other forums look like this one.
