These playful dogs are most commonly known for their mid-length white fur and deep black spots and noses. What some people may not know is that a Dalmatian's spots can be found in many different colors that range widely. These include:

Liver Dalmatian: A liver Dalmatian is a Dalmatian with liver (or brown) spots, instead of the common black spots, and always have a brown nose.

Lemon Dalmatian: A white Dalmatian with lightly colored spots, extremely noticeable when compared to a regular black and white Dalmatian. Lemon Dalmatians usually have a black or brown nose.

Pale Lemon Dalmatian: Just like the lemon Dalmatian, except its spots are extremely light, making it seem to be an all white canine.

Two Toned Lemon Dalmatian: A truly astonishing type of Dalmatian, with spots that are darker around the outside and lighter on the inside.

Orange Dalmatian: Orange Dalmatians have spots that are between the spots of a dark lemon and liver. They can often be distinguished from a lightly colored liver Dalmatian by their generally black noses.

Longhaired Dalmatians: Longhaired Dalmatians have the same spotting as other Dalmatians, but a longer coat and a bushy tail.

Blue Dalmatians: Blue Dalmatians have blue/gray spots and gray noses, and have blue/gold eyes.

Mosaic Dalmatians: These Dalmatians look just like a regular Dalmatians, most commonly black spotted ones, but have one spot that is a different color.

Tri-colored Dalmatian: A tri-colored Dalmatian has white fur with either tan and black spots, or tan and liver spots.

Brindle Dalmatians: Brindle dalmatians are closely related to tri-colored dalmatians, but have dark stripes on a fawn colored background, sometimes found on the tan spots or patches of a tri-colored Dalmatian.

Despite all the different markings, Dalmatians are born completely white, beginning to gain their spots after a couple weeks. A Dalmatian can have between 3 to 15 puppies in a single litter, usually having 8 to 9 a litter. A single Dalmatian once had 18 puppies in one litter!

These hyper-active dogs have a life span of 12 to 14 years, are learn very quickly. These intelligent canines, if trained at an early age, are very obedient. They also need lots of exercise and outdoor activity, along with contact with other dogs. These year round shedders are the only dog breed that can't process Protein correctly, which can lead to bladder stones which can be life threatening.

Even though males average in 22 to 24 inches in height and females average 20 to 22 inches, both averaging about 55 pounds, Dalmatians make wonderful pets and are fantastic around children if they're well trained. Dalmatians can potentially flatten a young child or deliver a hard hit with their tail if not trained, they will take advantage of owners that allow some bad behavior.
