Adoptable Description (provided by owner):
With one of the largest continuous ranges of all New World (Canada and the Americas) birds, the Canada Goose can be found throughout all parts of Canada and the continental United States. Their already widespread population were further expanded by people who introduced them to previously uncolonized areas for (presumably) decorative purposes. As their new favorite places are golf courses - with their slippery and acidic droppings providing an entirely different kind of "water hazard" - this expansion was not always met with complete approval. Since their preferred environment is short grass with shallow water nearby, the Canadas see this as a match made in heaven. Sadly, the golfers seldom agree.
Like most true geese, Canadas are large, aggressive birds with strong bills - and voices - they are not afraid to use. Sandy beige-brown with creamy underbody and their distinctive black head and white chinstrap, they are easily recognised and familiar almost everywhere. As a matter of fact, in most parts of their present territory they have ceased to migrate and become permanent residents year-round, though they do still often fly in their classic "vee"s.
Canadas mate for life, as do their cousins the swans, and females will usually return to the same nest site year after year. Despite their reputation as a "pest bird", they are devoted mates and parents, and make excellent neighbors as long as you and they don't "tee" each other off...
