The Desert Phoenix lives in the high mountains in the hottest deserts on Earth, spending days sunning itself on the rocks or hunting during sunset when life seeps forth from the caves hidden among the rocks and boulders to enjoy the cool evening air. No one knows their life span, since the moment their bodies cannot sustain them any more they burst into flames and burn down to a charred lump of coal that stirs into life the following morning to start the life-cycle once again. They live in family units, the parents caring for the newly laid eggs until they become adults and take off on their own to create their own families. Legends say that is why deserts are so very hot.
