Covered from ear to paw pad in a thick, red coat, the Red Panda often uses its fur and tail as shelter during less favorable weather by wrapping its tail around itself, allowing the dense fur to act as protection and insulation. Even more, that distinct, ringed tail helps Red Pandas keep their balance when traversing across their tree-top homes. Red Pandas are typically found in the temperate, mountain forests of Asia. Being omnivores, Red Pandas eat a variety of foods, including plants, nuts, eggs, and bamboo. They usually hunt for their meals beneath the hidden cover of night, but may also take the risk of foraging during early morning and evening. To help them in their search, Red Pandas have a thumb-like protrusion on their wrists, aiding their ability to grasp food. Red Pandas are generally solitary creatures, living alone within the depths of their beautiful mountain forests. Sadly, Red Pandas are now considered severely endangered due to the destruction of their forest habitats. Less than 2,500 fully grown Red Pandas are left in their natural habitats, especially since logging and agricultural deforestation rates have increased. As inhabitants of Earth, the planet of life, it is our duty to take responsibility for our actions and help resolve the issues that we have caused for our animal neighbors. We should always consider the effects that we have on all the magnificent creatures of the Earth, and improve our ways in order protect them. If we take action now by reducing pollution and use, re-using materials, and recycling our natural resources, then maybe one day, Red Pandas will no longer be an endangered species. Working together, we can save these beautiful and amazing animals. |
