The parents tried to hide her from the colony and all should believe that she was only a normal small bat. But the secret was discovered and she was abandoned. She learned already to fly and tried to find a new colony, but none let her stay and the loneliness made her shy and sad. One day she met a male bat and fell in love with him. She behaved like a normal bat and lived a few weeks in his colony until she had to leave again, but this time with her mate and their unborn child. After their daughter was born and the parents noticed that she has the same intelligence as her mother, they lowered their heads and prayed. Mother Nature, please help our child to be happy. And Mother Nature, the great goddess, answered their prayers and the small family became the first members of a new bat species; Vespertilio librorum. Vespertilio librorum or Book Bats are a new bat species. Like other bats they tend to live in groups, however not in big colonies, some prefer living in pairs and a few are loners. Because of their intelligence they learned to understand other animals and even the language of the humans. A lot of them are also able to speak with humans. These friendly and helpful bats are always welcome in the cities and often you will find them at places with many books. They are not pets, but treated as friends or little assistants in book stores, libraries or schools. Their diet consists of insects and like the distantly related flying foxes also of fruits and sometimes other things too. Some have a weakness for cookies and tea. |
