It was neither of the sea or of the land, but of both. Legend has it that decades ago when the first mammals came of this earth, a disaster had occurred or a mistake where the upper part of a wolf and the lower part of a fish was created. The story goes that on a stormy eve, a young wolf had been roaming too close to the edge of a cliff and fell from it, but there had been a smaller ledge below it. The wolf tried to get back up but just could not. Then there was a colorful strike through the dark skies of an asteroid blazing towards the earth. It had collided with that very cliff and that very wolf. It sent most of the cliff and the wolf into the roaring sea below. There was a collision between the wolf and of a creature of the sea. Many people assume it was a dolphin, others think it was some sort of large prehistoric fish. Whatever the case might be, it created what we know today as the Merwolf.

However, there is one other well known rumor that's rather recent. They claim scientists were doing research and experiments on creating hybrids of different species. The Merwolf was supposedly the very first successful hybrid created. There is what is considered a "morph" which was created accidently when a clumsy new scientist had spilled an unknown chemical into the main one.
