Animal FactsThe sun was high in the sky, making the dense jungle-like surroundings humid and muggy. Dragonflies and small, colorful birds filled the air with cheerful tunes and a peaceful, dulled buzzing. But the serenity wasn't meant to last. A few yards away Triceratops and an Ankylosaurus drank calmly from a secluded lake. Though within moments a rumbling echo split the air. The creatures instantly went into a frightened frenzy. Rearing, snorting, and bellowing. The lake and thick foliage on either side had them trapped in the clearing. Soon the ground started to tremble then a viscous roar came from the trail ahead as the beast rushed from it's hiding place, almost instantly taking down one of the Triceratops. This monster is known as Tyrannosaurus Rex. Meaning "tyrant lizard" in Greek. This dinosaur was one of the biggest predators of the Cretaceous, measuring up to 42 feet in length, 13 feet tall at the hips, and up to 6.8 metric tons in weight. While mostly suspected to be a scavenger, it could have just as easily hunted the herbivores of it's time with sharp teeth almost a foot long! Although the T-rex is thought to have died out over 60 million years ago, you can still find their remains in many museums. And if you ask me, we're lucky they're extinct.
