Type: North American Otter
Rarity: Limited Edition
Otters are recognized as playful animals and the North American type is no exception. Their long body and short legs are made for swimming but give them a bouncy hopping gait on land. They're quick and graceful swimmers, their webbed feet and tail propelling them swiftly through the water. Their thick fur is waterproof, keeping them dry and warm whether they're splashing around playing or hunting for food. The fur is darker on their back, usually shades of brown, with the underside lighter colored.
Otters live pretty much anywhere there's fresh water, near rivers, lakes, even in swamps. They build their dens next to water, with multiple entry and exit tunnels. Their favorite prey is fish, but they'll eat almost anything they can catch, including frogs and turtles.
They breed in the spring but don't give birth until late winter or early next spring. The mother usually has between one and six pups, which stay safe in the den until they're about two months old. At that age she starts bringing them out to teach them to swim and hunt. Being natural swimmers, they learn quickly.
